MW - Time, Balance and Death

Description

I'm feeling a little better now, I finally braved food that wasn't water crackers and I think it's doing me a world of good... I'm still pretty light-headed, though, so the following explanation of this old, never-to-be-finished picture will probably be rather fuzzy –

Read this crap if you’re interested in Midas Weave. I’ve explained Time’s story, most of Karma’s story (turns out there’s a reason he’s such a sourpuss) and a mind-rape of info concerning how the Members of Fabric operate. If you’re not interested you’ve probably already stopped reading and will never even see this :B

Presenting the three Superior Members of Fabric: Time, Balance and Death (two of whom you've met before xD). I'll just start from the beginning, shall I?

Time, unlike any of the other Members, is born and not made. The baby will be recognised by the mark on their chest, and it is then the responsibility of the current Time to raise the baby whilst teaching them their role.

The Time featured here was born in Germany in the First World, and given the name Sofie Metzger. The Time before her was too ill to raise her as his own, he let her remain with her birth family and grow as she pleased, promising he would teach of her duties when he was able. Without any instruction on how to channel her gifts, Sofie matured to be impatient, quick tempered, haughty and proud.

She found life exceedingly boring until she entered high school and met Erich Auwers, a talented but introverted fellow student training as a psychic. (Note: People in the First World aren't technically immortal, but they aren't human. They live for much longer, and most have "gifts", e.g. Erich (Karma) is a psychic and Jimmy is a shape shifter. Psychics are the most common, just so ya know xD) Upon meeting Erich for the first time, Sofie felt something she never had before: prohibition. She sensed she was not allowed to pursue him, and so being generally spoilt and selfish she pursued him regardless.

Erich, plainly put, probably thought all his Christmases had come at once. He was quiet, but not naïve, and although getting to know him was no easy task for Sofie, it was rewarding… he proved to be quick-witted, cynical and clever, traits of her own she favoured. The relationship was largely physical, and became detrimental the longer it lasted, as Sofie discovered how easily she could manipulate Erich. He grew tired, his strength of personality waned, and Sofie came to realise that was exactly what she wanted.

By the time they were eighteen she had nearly broken him completely, but circumstances took a turn for the worse when Time sought her out to begin teaching her to replace him. His mistake was his very first lesson: he taught her how to make new Members of Fabric. Sofie decided then and there that her future Members would all be loyal to her, she planned to change their traditions of being reclusive and secretive about their powers. Ultimately, she desired to have the Members of Fabric present themselves as what they really were: the most powerful beings in tangible existence.

Mulling world domination over as she was, Sofie realised she would need a right hand man. The Member second to Time is Balance, so Sofie told Erich who she was, spun her story like she was a princess destined to become a queen who needed a prince. She branded him with the mark on her chest and finally understood why she’d sensed as long as she’d known him that she was forbidden to touch him.

Three unfortunate facts came into play when Sofie made Erich into Balance:

Fact a) Balance, in essence, is the force that ensures things fated to be will occur, and it is Balance’s role to rectify events which were not predestined.

Fact b) When creating new Members of Fabric, the current Member must align their chest with their subject, thus if the brand was on the right side of the Member’s chest it will be transferred to the left side of the subject’s chest.

Fact c) In accordance with fact b), subjects who are branded on the left side of the chest (over the heart) are most unlucky. When being branded over the heart the subject will undoubtedly lose part or all of what is best described as their “soul”, though they refer to it metaphorically as their “heart”. It is easier than you would think to survive without your “soul”, and these Members tend to live longer but suffer more.

Erich was never fated to become Balance, which was why Sofie had felt foreboding. Already torn apart by the pain of the transformation, Erich’s pain was doubled by the weight of his new role: he was now Balance, and because of this Balance had been defied, filling him with the relentless need to restore it and causing him deeper agony the longer he couldn’t. In addition to this pain, Sofie had also unknowingly taken his heart. He should have died, but fate would have it that he didn’t.

A perversion of destiny, if unfixed, never heals. There was nothing Erich or Sofie could do to change their mistake, although as Sofie was unscathed by the whole ordeal she wasn’t really fussed. Erich, on the other hand, would be in pain for the rest of his very, very long life. lawl he’s like House xD

The Member third to Time is Death, so Sofie found herself a candidate for that role, too. Michael Regan, power-hungry but obedient, intelligent but not questioning and naturally ruthless, was an excellent candidate. Now isn’t really the time for his story, though.

H’oh, Jesus this is long enough. Blah, blah, blah, Erich found his feet, pulled the knife out of his back and deposited it in Sofie’s. (for the record, Sofie is the only Member who goes by her real name instead of her original name, so whenever I talk about “Time” please assume I’m talking about her) He left her, nullifying her plan of world domination and royally pissing her off, and sought out his bestest buddy Jimmy whom he’d grown up with and whom he should’ve listened to when Jimmy assured him Sofie was a “no good slurry”.

And so… with Jimmy and Erich lay the beginnings of their little time-travel-squad-thing, as Erich had stolen the time-manipulating-device-thing from Time, which you would already know if you’d read this: [link] You’ll see in that Karma is quite frivolous when referring to Time, but on the inside his guts were churning with insurmountable hatred I assure you c:

Other Things I Think I Should Clear Up:

- no, the Superior Members of Fabric do not have wings, thus this picture is misleading (lol shut up, I was going for symbolism) … although whenever they meet mortals they tend to get asked if they’re angels. This is due to us mortals being fairly intuitive when we want to be… or in the case of meeting Michael, this is due to us mortals being wishful thinkers.

- This picture shows them when they were younger, but I’m sure you figured that out. Time has shorter hair now… so does Karma lawl – oh, but Michael’s hair is much longer >_>

- Do… do you want to know why Karma was nick-named Karma? Well, not long after leaving Time he happened to be drunk and attempting to explain to Jimmy about the Members of Fabric at the same time. After he tried to define “Balance” Jimmy astutely, albeit drunkenly, summed it up as: “You mean if someone does something bad you’re the force that’s gonna punish them? So… like karma? Only not because you’re not Buddhist?” And that, my friends, is how Karma was nick-named Karma.

- Please know that if you’ve been pronouncing “Erich” in your head as “Eh-rich” I would be really amused xD It’s just the German version of “Eric” and is pronounced the same :3

- … lol boobs.

THE LONG-AWAITED END
